The Story

Context and Intent

For this culminating project, I based the story on Persian poet Ferdowsis' epic book of poems the Shahnameh. It recounts the tragic tale about a father and son named Rostam and Sohrab. They meet in battle on opposite sides of a war, unknown to each other having never met, and in the end Rostam winds up killing his son in battle, finding out about his identity only at the end.

It became very important to me to share a story as well known as works created by the likes of Virgil and Homer, but created about the middle east. This project became even more important for me to work on now in these politically charged times, which ultimately added a greater weight to the significance of such a story aside from my own personal connection to it.

Ferdowsi

A Persian poet, credited with producing one of the longest epic poems ever created. He began to see success as a poet in the Samanid and Ghaznavid Dynasties.
